Five stages, in order. The first two are mine to control; the last three belong partly to the material. That division is the whole subject of the work.
Custom wood panels are prepared and layered with gypsum, lime, and cementitious plasters, creating the foundation for each piece and establishing the physical depth of the work.
Successive layers of mineral-based materials are applied, carved, and rebuilt. Each addition and subtraction creates a stratified surface that records the history of its own making.
Hand-mixed pigments are worked directly into the plaster, while subtle copper or brass gilding catches changing light, revealing new depth and texture as the surface evolves.
The surface is sanded, scraped, and excavated, exposing hidden layers beneath. Rather than covering imperfections, the process embraces them as part of the final composition.
Each piece becomes a tactile convergence of architecture, material, and time — a contemporary work shaped through traditional techniques and guided by the balance between control and discovery.
